Less

I am nearing 40 years old and only know understanding the concept of less.

Less spending, less travel, less eating, less chasing, less movement, less thinking, less judgment… The list goes on.

A happy involves less I’ve come to learn. My knee injury has allowed me to slow down and enjoy the minutiae of daily life. Everything I do now is calculated to avoid further injury as I await the next steps in my recovery.

New media is often saturated with platitudes about wanderlust and exploring as much as you can while you can. I think there’s something to be said about exploring your backyard and staying close to home. Enjoy the small things because in the race to chase everything you wont have time for yourself. And if you’re constantly running away from yourself – well that’s no fun.

Today I went on a hike after a month of uncertainty and fear. I got the green light from the doctor to take it easy and know my limits. I could have easily made it to the top of the trail I hiked today but I stopped short halfway through and headed down — I’ll get to the top another day 🙂 For now I’ll take it easy and enjoy the small steps.

Walk neither faster nor slower than your own soul. Because it is your soul that will teach you the usefulness of each step you take.

– Paulo Coelho
